Sintermetalle Prometheus GmbH & Co KG presents inductive components for environmental applications. The components are used in converters, power converters, and high-frequency converters, which are used, for example, in plants for recycling waste and raw materials, in waste processing, or sewage and water treatment plants. The chokes, EMC filters, medium-frequency transformers, and soft-magnetic cores from SMP are extremely energy-efficient, have low losses, and are also suitable for extreme environmental conditions.
Components in environmental technology applications have to withstand challenging environmental conditions such as dirt, dust or moisture, extreme weather conditions, and high temperatures. To meet these requirements, the components meet temperature Class H (180°C) according to DIN EN 60085 and fire protection Class HL3 according to DIN EN 45545. The protection classes range from IP00 to IP66 according to DIN EN 60529. This means that components from SMP can be used in ambient conditions according to PD4, both inside and outside the power converter or the electrical system. Cooling methods that the devices are suitable for include air cooling, water cooling, and free convection. To ensure continuous use, reliability also plays a major role in environmental applications:
To conserve resources in the long term and minimize ongoing operating costs, the components must have an optimal energy balance. The specially developed and produced materials of the components from SMP are characterized by minimal eddy current and hysteresis losses. The materials are extraordinarily energy-efficient so that extremely low-loss and compact components with high energy density and maximum efficiency can be implemented for even the toughest requirements. To protect the environment, people, and wildlife, all powder-metallurgical materials are magnetostriction-free, which means that they do not emit any noise. Due to the closed design of the components, the magnetic stray field is minimized, which not only benefits adjacent electronic components, but also the sensitive sensors of animals in the vicinity of the systems that are not disturbed. The compact design with minimized volume and weight also ensures savings in the required installation space.

The application spectrum of the components from SMP ranges from currents of up to 3000 A, frequencies up to the gigahertz range, and a saturation induction of up to 2 Tesla. All components are RoHS and REACH compliant as well as CE, EAC, UKCA certified. The materials used are UL listed.
SMP develops and produces chokes, EMC filters, transformers, and soft-magnetic molded parts in Graben-Neudorf, Baden. The soft magnetic powder composite materials used for the passive components are specially developed for each application and manufactured in-house, which ensures high availability. In addition to environmental technology, components from SMP are used in applications in the fields of power electronics, drive technology, automation, signal processing, medical technology, electromobility, ship technology, railway technology, energy generation, renewable energies, and aerospace. The products are sold worldwide with an export rate of over 50 percent.
