Diodes Incorporated has unveiled the AP3129, a highly integrated multi-mode peak current controller specifically designed to deliver exceptional efficiency, especially at light loads, catering to the demands of IoT (Internet of Things) applications. This innovative controller also features Diodes' proprietary audible noise elimination technology, mitigating acoustic disturbances caused by electronic and magnetic components.
The AP3129 operates in multiple modes, adapting to varying load conditions. During heavy-load situations, the device operates in continuous-conduction mode (CCM) at a fixed switching frequency of 65 kHz, contributing to a more compact transformer design. As the load decreases, it seamlessly transitions into quasi-resonant (QR) or green mode, optimizing power conversion efficiency. For light or no-load scenarios, the IC engages its proprietary burst mode, minimizing power consumption with a minimal switching frequency of approximately 22 kHz.
One of the notable features of this controller is its ability to accommodate transient peak power excursions during peak loads. It can dynamically increase its frequency from 65 kHz to 130 kHz until the peak event subsides.
The AP3129 ensures precise and consistent output power limits over a wide line voltage range thanks to its piecewise linear line compensation.
The AP3129 boasts a range of key features, including multiple operation modes, a peak load frequency of 130 kHz, fixed-frequency CCM operation at 65 kHz for full load optimization, an 80 kHz maximum clamping frequency for QR mode, green mode with valley switching, burst mode control for light loads, high efficiency exceeding 90% at 10% load, proprietary audible noise elimination technology, and comprehensive system protection features.
This versatile controller finds applications in IoT offline power as well as home appliances such as smart speakers, AC fans, rice cookers, shavers, and milk machines. It is also well-suited for TV/monitor standby power, AC/DC adapters, or quick chargers.
The AP3129, available in SOT26 (Type CJ), is a lead-free, RoHS-compliant, and environmentally conscious solution. Automotive applications necessitate rigorous change control procedures requiring specific change control, such as parts qualified to AEC-Q100/101/104/200 standards and PPAP capability.
