Potenza Technology, a developer and manufacturer of systems for hybrid and electric vehicles, has launched its fifth-generation battery management system (BMS).

The fully-certified module is described as a ‘compliant off-the-shelf solution’, offering the same standards as more expensive bespoke alternatives. With that in mind, the new module should help to significantly reduce upfront vehicle development costs.

Designed to maximize cost efficiencies and on-road performance, the new system is compliant with ISO 26262 ASIL C standards.

The new BMS offers full battery system capabilities. From circuitry to final application layers, the system was developed in-house by Potenza.

The BMS is both flexible and scalable. Devenport added that the company had the capability to deliver volumes in the hundreds or up to 50,000 units, supporting both niche vehicle makers and larger OEMs.

Featuring a modular design, the BMS is compatible with both 400 V and 800 V battery systems. 800 V systems are becoming increasingly more widespread, as they can support higher charging voltages and deliver shorter recharging times.

Systems can be configured to a specific application to optimize vehicle efficiency and performance. The BMS is suitable for use with commercial vehicles through to hypercars.

With a UK-based development headquarters and European production, Potenza Technology is wholly owned by Iveco Group powertrain developer FPT Industrial.
