Nexperia, a global leader in semiconductor solutions, has introduced the NEX30606, a high-efficiency step-down converter that offers an ultra-low quiescent current of just 220 nA, making it ideal for battery-powered applications such as wearable electronics, smart meters, and medical sensor patches.
Key Features and Benefits of NEX30606
The NEX30606 supports input voltages ranging from 1.8 V to 5.0 V, accommodating power sources like 2S to 3S alkaline batteries, 1S Li-MnO2, Li-ion, and Li-SOCL2. With an output current capability of up to 600 mA, the converter provides exceptional efficiency, achieving over 90% efficiency at 1 mA load and exceeding 92.8% efficiency at 300 mA load, particularly in configurations such as a 3.6 V input to 1.8 V output.
The step-down converter utilizes Constant On Time (COT) control, ensuring minimal power consumption and rapid transient response. At light load conditions, the device automatically enters Power Save Mode, further reducing switching cycles to extend battery life.
Flexible Output Voltage and Package Design
The NEX30606 offers 16 selectable fixed output voltages, configurable via the VSET pin, with a 2% output voltage accuracy. The ultra-compact WLCSP6 (SOT8055-1) package, with a 0.35 mm pitch, makes it a perfect fit for space-constrained applications.
Robust Protection and Operating Conditions
The device includes built-in features such as output discharge and ESD protection, meeting industry standards with:
- HBM (Human Body Model): ANSI/ESDA/JEDEC JS-001 Class 2, exceeding 2000 V
- CDM (Charged Device Model): ANSI/ESDA/JEDEC JS-002 Class C2a, exceeding 500 V
It is designed to operate across an extended temperature range from -40°C to +125°C, making it suitable for industrial environments and harsh operating conditions.
Applications Across Multiple Industries
The NEX30606 is tailored for various power-sensitive applications, including:
- Wearable electronics – Smartwatches, fitness trackers, and health monitors
- Smart metering – Remote monitoring devices
- Asset tracking devices – Low-power GPS and RFID systems
- Medical sensor patches – Portable health monitoring solutions
- Industrial IoT and Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) – Smart factory and logistics applications
- 3 x AA battery-powered devices – Consumer electronics and remote sensors
Typical Application Circuit
A standard application circuit for the NEX30606 includes a 2.2 µH inductor, 10 µF output capacitor, and 4.7 µF input capacitor, ensuring reliable performance across various load conditions.
