The MP2733 from Monolithic Power Systems is an Integrated Switch-Mode Battery Charger IC for single-cell Li-ion or Li-polymer batteries. It requires an input voltage of up to 3.7 - 16 V and provides an output current of 4.5 A. This battery management IC (BMIC) features narrow voltage DC (NVDC) system power path management wherein its low-impedance power path optimizes efficiency, reducing battery charging time and extending battery life. It includes an I2C interface that allows the device to be flexibly controlled with configurable charging and system settings. This BMIC supports a wide range of input sources, including standard USB host ports and high-powered wall adapters with fast charge capabilities. It supports USB On-the-Go (OTG) operation allowing the battery to power external devices connected to the USB port.
This BMIC initiates and completes a charging cycle without software control. It includes multiple protection features such as over-voltage protection (OVP), over-current protection (OCP), thermal regulation, and battery temperature monitoring to enhance the safety and reliability of the charging process. This BMIC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 3.5 x 3.5 mm and is ideal for tablet PCs, smartphones, wireless cameras, and other portable device applications.
