The MPF42793DRT-0B-0000-Z from Monolithic Power Systems is a Battery Pack Fuel Gauge IC that has been designed to provide comprehensive status information on lithium-ion battery strings up to 16 series cells. It requires an input voltage of 3 - 3.6 V. This IC estimates the internal state-of-charge (SOC) and state-of-health (SOH) for each cell, as well as the full pack along with determining impedance, remaining runtime, charge time, and available power. It offers on-board memory that allows for lifetime logging of key parameters.
This IC can be interfaced with a battery management system (BMS) analog front-end (AFE) providing individual cell voltage, pack current, and temperature estimation. It features adaptive learning that can be enabled to refine initial charge settings, initial discharge settings and update individual cells’ SOH and equivalent series resistance (ESR) to track degradation. This battery management IC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 4 x 4 mm and is ideal for light electric vehicles such as scooters, bikes, and golf carts, renewable energy systems, industrial robots, cordless tools, gardening equipment and energy storage for UPS applications.
