The ACT2861QI201-T from Qorvo is a buck-boost charger with 4 integrated MOSFETs that minimize the size of the application circuit and reduce power losses to maximize efficiency. It requires an input voltage of 3.9 - 29 V. This BMIC offers a high efficiency with low component count making it a compact solution for 2 to 5 cell battery charging applications. It has an OTG function with outputs supporting QC3.0 / USB PD + PPS output levels and transition times within a wide range of output voltages. This controller IC has internal high-side gate drivers which only require two small external capacitors to simplify the design process while an advanced switch control algorithm allows the buck-boost converter to maintain output voltage regulation with input voltages that are above, below, or equal to the output voltage. It is optimized to reduce input current in shipping, shutdown, and standby for applications that are sensitive to quiescent current draw, such as battery-powered devices. Both the input and output voltages and currents can be configured by resistors and the I2C serial interface.
This JEITA-compliant BMIC has a built-in ADC that can read input/output voltages and currents and the die temperature and can easily charge a multi-cell battery pack from a variety of input power sources using an MCU. It provides a standard battery charger and power supply safety features for system operation. This BMIC is available in a surface mount package that measures 4 x 4 mm and is ideal for multi-cell battery chargers, portable battery-powered devices, car chargers, power banks, 24V industrial applications, automotive power systems, multiple power source supplies, DC UPS, solar powered devices and solid-state lighting applications.
