The ISL9238 from Renesas is a Buck-Boost Narrow Voltage DC Battery Charger IC that is ideal for 1 to 4-cell tablets, ultrabooks, notebooks, power banks and other battery-operated USB-C interface portable device applications. It requires an input voltage of 3.2 - 23.4 V and provides an output voltage of 2.4 V - 18.304 V. This Li-ion battery management IC (BMIC) benefits from the autonomous charging option and has an IMVP-compliant system power monitor feature. It has adapter current and battery current monitoring and features IMVP-compliant open-drain output. This IC allows trickle charging of depleted battery and provides ideal diode control in turbo mode. It offers reverse buck, boost, and buck-boost operation and allows a two-level adapter current limit. This BMIC includes a battery ship mode option and supports serial communication using SMBus/I2C, allowing control of various parameters. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 4 x 4 mm.
