The BD6046GUL-E2 from ROHM Semiconductor is a Charge Protection IC that has been designed to protect electronic devices from abnormal input voltage events occurring at the USB port. It requires an input voltage of up to 28 V. This IC can prevent the negative voltage from occurring due to USB reverse insertion faults, without using additional components. It integrates a low drain-source on-state resistance FET transistor to provide faster switching and reduce thermal dissipation, which in turn results in an improved battery life.
This BMIC includes safety features such as over-voltage lockout (OVLO), under-voltage lockout (UVLO), over-current protection, and thermal shutdown. It provides an internal startup delay of 2.5 ms for power-up sequencing and protection against inrush currents. This RoHS-compliant battery management IC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 2.5 x 2.5 mm and is ideal for mobile phones, MP3 players, digital still cameras, PDAs, IC recorders, electronic dictionaries, handheld games, game controllers, camcorders and Bluetooth headsets applications.
