The STC3100IST from STMicroelectronics is a Battery Management IC that is ideal for cell phones, PDAs, MP3 players, cordless phones, digital cameras, USB appliances, and Bluetooth device applications. It requires an input voltage of 2.7 - 5.5 V. This battery management IC (BMIC) consists of an A/D converter (11 bits-unsigned), multiplexer, temperature sensor, oscillators, voltage reference, 32 kHz time-base, control registers, memory units, and serial peripheral interfaces. It features advanced battery voltage monitoring for precise Li-Ion cell power level insights, and an integrated temperature sensor for real-time monitoring of the battery's thermal conditions. This BMIC achieves unparalleled accuracy when measuring Coulomb’s of charge and offers the flexibility of using either an internal or external time base for accurate synchronization. It can be programmed using an I2C interface and uses appropriate control schemes to provide seamless communication for gas gauge monitoring and device control. This BMIC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 3 x 3 mm.
