The ADM1170-1AUJZ-RL7 from Analog Devices is a Hot Swap Controller eFuse IC that has been designed to safely enable a printed circuit board to be removed and inserted into a live backplane. This eFuse IC requires an input voltage of 2.7-16.5 V. It employs an external N-channel power MOSFET with an integrated current control loop to monitor the load current through a sense resistor, thereby allowing safe insertion of PCB to a live backplane. The eFuse IC has an internal charge pump to drive the gate terminal of the N-channel FET. It reduces the gate voltage of the FET to limit the current flowing through the sense resistor when an over-current condition is detected.
The ADM1170-1AUJZ-RL7 uses a soft start control function to provide the user with a capacitor-programmable ramping reference to the internal current sense comparator, limiting large in-rush currents. It has built-in under-voltage lockout (UVLO) protection and over-current protection (OCP) circuits to prevent false triggering or short-circuit-related damages. This eFuse IC is available in a surface mount package that measures 2.90 x 2.80 mm and is ideal for line cards, raid systems, industrial high-side switches/circuit breakers, and electronic circuit breaker applications.
