The STEF512PUR from STMicroelectronics is a Dual Electronic Fuse designed to protect circuitry on the output from over-current and over-voltage events in applications not requiring hot swap operation and in-rush current control. It requires an input voltage of up to 25 V and an output voltage of less than 18 V. This eFuse consists of two independent electronic fuses, one for the 5 V rails and the other for the 12 V rails. It offers low on-resistance and integrates power field-effect transistors (FETs) to ensure low voltage drop from the main supply to the load under normal operations. This eFuse also provides a precise over-voltage clamp for each channel, which prevents the load from damage due to power supply failures. It also equips an under-voltage lockout (UVLO) to ensure that the input voltage is over a minimum threshold before the device is turned ON.
This eFuse IC limits the output current to a pre-defined safe value under over-load conditions. It goes into thermal shutdown mode when an anomalous overload condition persists, allowing the internal switch to open and disconnect the load from the power supply. This IC also includes two current monitor pins to provide continuous information about the load current for each channel. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 2 x 3 mm and is ideal for HD and SSD drives, DVD and Blu-ray disc drivers, and set-top box applications.
