The TMC9660 from Analog Devices is a Monolithic Gate Driver IC that is ideal for robotics, power tools, gardening, automated guided vehicles, pumps, factory automation, desktop manufacturing, e-bikes, light electric vehicles, and industrial 3D printing applications. It requires an input voltage of 7.7-70 V. This IC allows complete control and communication with an external processor through SPI or UART interfaces and a pre-programmed 32-bit microcontroller. It consists of a smart gate driver, a motion controller with hardware-based field-oriented control (FOC) and servo controller, motor position feedback interfaces, an analog signal processing block, a power management unit, and LDO regulators. This gate driver provides support for motor control using a fast space vector pulse width modulation (PWM) engine, transmits motor feedback (Velocity and position) with an A/D converter interfaced with an on-chip block, and rotor feedback via an encoder and hall sensor feedback engine.
The processor system integrated into this driver supports either low-level direct register access to all motor control peripherals or higher-level parameter mode access for extended functionality and ease of use. It includes a bootloader that permanently stores the initial configuration of system hardware connections and software selection in the one-time programmable (OTP) memory. This gate driver consumes low power in hibernation mode and has a wake-up button and timer for activation. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 9 x 9 mm.
