The ALED6001 from STMicroelectronics is an Automotive-Qualified Single-Channel LED Driver IC that is ideal for automotive exterior lighting, daytime running lights, high and low beam lights, fog lights, and position lighting/blinker applications. It requires an input voltage of 5.5 - 36 V. This LED driver combines a boost controller and high-side current sensing circuitry for driving one string of high-brightness LEDs. It is compatible with multiple topologies such as boost, SEPIC, and floating load buck-boost converters to achieve different brightness levels. This AEC-Q101-qualified driver IC performs pulse width modulation (PWM)-dimming of the LED using an external MOSFET that is connected in series with the LED string and directly driven by a dedicated pin. It either connects an external resistor to this pin to manage the LED current setting or uses an analog control if a microcontroller is located in the LED module.
The LED driver’s high-precision current sensing circuitry allows the LED current regulation reference to achieve an accuracy of ±4% over the entire temperature range and production spread. It is equipped with output short-circuit detection, thermal shutdown with auto-restart, fixed internal soft-start, and programmable output over-voltage protection (OVP) for high reliability. This LED driver is available in a surface-mount package that measures 4.90 x 6.20 mm.
