The RTQ7882-QT from Richtek is an Automotive Qualified USB Type-C and PWM Buck-Boost Controller IC that offers an excellent USB-based power delivery (PD) solution for a USB-PD provider application with few external components and a simple PCB layout. It requires an input voltage of 4.5 - 30 V and provides an output voltage of 3 - 22 V. This controller consists of a microcontroller unit (MCU) with built-in ARM Cortex-M0 CPU, watchdog timer, timers, 10-bit ADC, memory units, and serial interfaces, constant current (CC)-1/2 functions for power delivery, a PWM buck-boost controller with built-in gate drivers and logic circuit, output bleeders, charge-pump gate driver, amplifier, detector, voltage compensation, LDO regulator and control circuit, and internal protection circuitries. It uses the MCU to control power, perform customized functions, to act as a policy engine, and a device policy manager. This power delivery IC includes the AnyVolt feature to adjust the constant-voltage (CV) output voltage to compensate for the voltage drop across the USB cable. It allows the controller to request a higher bus voltage from the provider through PD communication protocols to achieve an accurate application voltage.
