The SI3462-GM from Skyworks Solutions is a Single-Port PoE Controller that is designed and optimized for single Ethernet port applications such as PoE injectors, mid-spans, and fiber to copper bridges. This power sourcing equipment (PSE) controller requires a DC supply of 3.3 to 50 V and can also be powered by 50 V input using a shunt regulator. It uses a robust 3-point algorithm to mitigate false detection problems and has an LED status signal that indicates the port status, power good, and output fault detection event information. This PoE controller consists of an intelligent protection circuit that offers in-rush current control, input-under-voltage lockout (UVLO), classification-based current limiting, and output short-circuit protection.

The IEEE 802.3at-compliant PoE controller is available in a surface-mount package that measures 3 x 3 mm and is ideal for use in IEEE 802.3at end-points and midspans, environment A and B PSEs, embedded PSEs, set-top boxes, FTTH media converters, cable modem, and DSL gateway applications.
