This paper compares different electrical machine topologies in the automotive segment, focusing on the passenger car segment. The study examines 120 kW to 500 kW electrical machines designed for small to premium vehicles in the B to D segment. It considers efficiency, cost, sustainability, weight, and performance. The study uses a 255 kW electrical machine in D-E segment passenger cars, but the findings can apply to other passenger car segments. The study also considers production aspects, focusing on central-drive propulsion architecture, which covers most of the market.
