The RAA489118 from Renesas is a Buck-Boost Battery Charger IC that has been designed to support charging and protection for standalone battery charging of 2 to 7-cell batteries in power tools, portable vacuums, drones, notebooks, power banks, and battery-powered lawn mowers. It requires an input voltage of 3.9-30 V and provides an output voltage of 2.4-30.8 V. This battery charger uses Renesas R3 technology that offers highly efficient light-load operation and fast transient response. It accepts input power from a wide range of DC power sources in the charging mode, and safely charges the battery packs. This battery charger supports reverse buck, reverse boost, or reverse buck-boost operation to the input port from 2 to 7-cell batteries. 

This charger IC provides programmable resistor options, including autonomous charging, maximum output voltage, and adapter current limit. It also enables serial communication that allows users to program various critical parameters and deliver a customized solution. This battery charger IC is available in a surface-mount package that measures 4 x 4 mm.
