The DB4 from STMicroelectronics is a Diac that has been designed to function as a trigger diode with a fixed voltage reference. It has a break-over voltage of 40 V and a break-over current of less than 50 µA. This DIAC can be used in conjunction with Triacs for simplified gate control circuits or as a starting element in fluorescent lamp ballasts. It is available in a through-hole package that measures 2.75 x 0.89 mm and is ideal for a 32 V trigger device for oscillator circuits, startup triggering in lighting ballasts for CFL, TL, or LED lamps, trigger device for Triac or SCR-based motor/light dimmer applications.
