The MPQ70160FS from Monolithic Power Systems is an Automotive Qualified Power Management IC that is designed to operate from 5 V buses to power a variety of ADAS SoCs. This PMIC requires an input voltage of 2.7 V to 5.5 V. It consists of six multi-phase buck converters and has a constant frequency peak current mode control that offers fast transient performance with stable frequency. This PMIC uses a 2 MHz fixed switching frequency during CCM mode to significantly reduce the external inductor and capacitor value. It utilizes the frequency spread spectrum technique and provides a 180° phase shift between buck 1/3/6 and buck 2/4/5 converters to optimize EMC/EMI characteristics.
The MPQ70160FS has hiccup overcurrent protection (OVP), hiccup over/under-voltage protection thermal warning, and shutdown to prevent over-load-related damages. This AEC-Q100 qualified PMIC integrates sophisticated functional safety features such as a built-in self-testing (BIST) and diagnostic analysis to support applications with a high automotive safety integrity level up to ASIL-D. It is available in a surface-mount package that measures 5 x 5 mm with wettable flanks and is ideal for infotainment SoC, automotive advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) SoC, and general-purpose secondary regulation applications.
