The nPM1100-CAAA-R from Nordic Semiconductor is a Power Management IC that has been designed as a complementary component to Nordic’s nRF52 series and nRF53 series system-on-chips (SoCs) to ensure reliable power delivery and stable operation. It requires an input voltage of 4.1 - 6.7 V. This PMIC includes a 400 mA linear-mode Li-ion/Li-polymer battery charger, system regulator, a buck DC-DC regulator, and LED drivers. It requires a minimum of five passive components for operation and offers soft startup and automatic transition between hysteretic and PWM modes. This JEITA-compliant PMIC also operates in forced PWM mode to ensure clean power operation and supports USB charging with automatic port detection. It can be used as a generic PMIC that can charge lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries with a selectable termination voltage selectable of 4.1-4.2 V supporting cell chemistries with a nominal voltage of 3.6 and 3.7 V, respectively.
This RoHS-compliant PMIC consists of soft startup, constant current/voltage, and battery thermal protection to prevent over-current-related damages. It is available in a wafer-level package that measures 2.075 x 2.075 mm and is ideal for smart home sensors, personal medical devices, remote controls, and wearable applications.
