Germany's battery electric vehicle (BEV) adoption is uneven, influenced by factors such as ownership costs, charging infrastructure access, and awareness. To ensure all consumers can participate in the transition to zero-emission models, the cost barrier must be addressed. This report analyzes the total cost of ownership for new BEVs over a four-year holding period, focusing on new passenger cars. The analysis includes base price, VAT, fueling and charging costs, maintenance, insurance, ownership taxes, and incentives. The report compares these costs as a share of net household income and discusses broader BEV access in Germany.
